The GAA have introduced a new 'Mark' rule for football matches. If upon a player catches the ball cleanly from a kick-out and also on or past the 45 meter line, he or she will have the option to either take a free kick or play the ball immediately.
The measure was passed back in February through congress with a support of 68%. President Aogán Ó Fearghail said: "The plan in relation to the mark is ambitious but I am very confident that referees, players and officials at all levels will be prepared for it. The new rule will be implemented from the 1st January 2017.
