Ifa will hold spring election for board and president

Nominations close this evening for the role of IFA president. The vote follows the resignation of the former President Eddie Downey who left amid controversial pay and pension packages for high ranking officials. The elections will not take place until the end of April, but the deadline for nominations is 5.30pm today. The president's job is not the only position being filled - a rule change means that all members of the executive board are stepping aside. However chairman of the IFA's Kerry executive, Seán Brosnan, says they can stand for re-election. "There was a second rule change then we saw it, it was there before and we went back to that rule where each position would be a two-year position" he said. "So effectively, all the other positions are coming to the end of a two-year term now - and they're eligible to be challenged or to seek re-election, the deputy president and the four regional chairmen". "The treasurer has always been elected by council after the election" he added.
