The cabinet has approved the bill to allow Irish citizens living abroad to vote in presidential elections.
The Government hopes to hold a referendum on the issue in October, pending approval from the Oireachtas. It would mean everyone with Irish citizenship living abroad could vote for the President. It's planned to use online registration and postal voting to extend the franchise, and that the 2025 election would be the first in which Irish people abroad could vote.
