More than one third of Irish people are unable to find Cavan on a map, almost one in 5 don't recognise Tipperary and 20 per cent cannot identify Mayo. A study by Jury's Inn finds that many Irish people are not familiar with well known locations in the country. A quarter of us don't know where Benbulben is and one in ten confess they have no idea where the Giant's Causeway is. When asked to determine if some of our nation's more unusual place names were real or fake, 64 per cent had never heard of Bastardstown in County Wexford, believing it to be a made-up name.
