Around 200 users of illegal streaming services across Ireland — many of them believed to be based in County Wexford — have received legal warning letters from Sky over the use of so-called “dodgy boxes”. The letters relate to the illegal IPTV service known as “IPTV is Easy”, which provided access to sports and entertainment channels without legitimate subscriptions. The Independent reports that customers were ordered to sign a legal undertaking within 14 days promising they would never again subscribe to illegal IPTV services or infringe Sky’s copyright. Sky warned recipients that failure to comply could lead to legal proceedings, including claims for damages and legal costs. The broadcaster obtained the details of more than 300 subscribers following a civil prosecution involving Wexford man David Dunbar, who was identified as operating the service from an address in Roxborough Manor, County Wexford. According to reports, Revolut records helped identify customers and resellers linked to the platform after the High Court granted access to account information. Sky says other broadcasters, including Clubber TV, LOITV, GAA+ and Premier Sports, are also supporting efforts to tackle illegal streaming services. Illegal IPTV services have grown significantly in Ireland in recent years, with estimates suggesting dodgy boxes are now used in hundreds of thousands of homes nationwide.
