Wexford Among Areas with No Applications for Short-Term Lets

Councils across Ireland have investigated over 1,600 properties suspected of breaching planning laws related to short-term lets in the past three years. Wexford, along with several other counties, reported no planning applications for short-term lets despite the entire country being designated as a Rent Pressure Zone (RPZ) since June 2023. The majority of investigations, particularly in Dublin, have resulted in warning letters, with just 66 applications for short-term lets received in Dublin since mid-2019. While legislation has been fast-tracked to address the issue, some councils, including Wexford, have yet to see a significant number of applications, raising concerns about enforcement. Despite the high number of listings on platforms like Airbnb, the government continues to push for stricter regulation to boost long-term rental supply.
