Wexford tenants raise concerns over heating system servicing costs

Concerns have been raised over who should foot the bill for servicing heating systems in some local authority homes in County Wexford.

Independent Councillor Jackser Owens says he has been contacted by a number of tenants using air-to-water heating systems who are unhappy after being told they may have to pay the cost of servicing equipment themselves.

Councillor Owens says he has raised the issue with Wexford County Council officials in the maintenance section after speaking to residents over the weekend.

He said tenants are generally very happy with the air-to-water systems themselves, but there is frustration over the prospect of having to cover servicing costs.

Councillor Owens said he does not yet know exactly how much a service would cost, but believes it could represent a significant expense for some households.

He compared the requirement to maintaining a car or traditional heating system, saying regular servicing is necessary but questioning whether local authority tenants should be expected to meet the cost themselves.
