Wexford's 292 Sheep Farmers Allocated €482,546

The 2025 National Sheep Welfare Scheme has granted €482,546 to 292 sheep farmers in County Wexford, announced Enniscorthy Minister Browne today. The scheme, designed to support farmers in producing high-quality livestock while improving animal welfare practices, offers increased payments for participating farmers. This year, the payment rate has risen from €8 to €11.50 per ewe, with farmers in Wexford now eligible for up to €23.50 per ewe, a 17.5% increase from 2024. Minister James Browne welcomed the payments, recognizing sheep farmers as vital contributors to both the local economy and Ireland’s global reputation for quality agriculture. He also thanked farmers for their ongoing commitment to animal welfare and encouraged those receiving correspondence from the Department to respond promptly to ensure timely processing of payments. Nationwide, over 13,000 farmers are benefiting from this year's scheme, with a second payment run scheduled for December.
